​2021 GSC Annual Meeting

The Geological Society of Connecticut will be holding its annual meeting VIRTUALLY on Zoom.

Please join us for informal conversations about the state of the geosciences, a presentation by Dr. Will Ouimet (University of Connecticut) entitled “The LIDAR Revolution in Earth Surface Mapping”, and our annual business meeting.

WHEN: 
This virtual meeting will be held Friday, November 19 at 5pm.

HOW:
A meeting link will be emailed out to registered participants the week before the event.

SCHEDULE:
5:00 – 5:30 Welcome 
and breakout discussions about future GSC activities
5:30 – 5:50 Business meeting and presenting of the J.W Peoples award 
5:50 – 6:00 Break
6:00 – 7:00 lecture and Q&A with Dr. Will Ouimet and Janet Stone – The LIDAR Revolution in Earth Surface Mapping.

COST:
Members          FREE – donations to the student research funds are appreciated.
Students           FREE (including complimentary membership for 2021)
Non-members: Join as a member for $20, donations to the student research fund are appreciated

​Dr. Will Ouimet, Professor, Departments of Geosciences, and Geography, University of Connecticut.

PRESENTATION:
“The LIDAR Revolution in Earth Surface Mapping”
This presentation explores the use of LiDAR throughout southern New England and how it has revolutionized investigation into the geologic history of the region, with particular focus on two applications of LIDAR based mapping and landform interpretation: 1) mapping historical land use features; and 2) updating and refinement of Quaternary geologic maps.
