Joe Webb Peoples Award

​In honor of Dr. Joe Webb Peoples, the GSC is proud to sponsor an annual award 
recognizing those who have contributed to our understanding of the geology of Connecticut  through scholarship, education, and service.

Criteria:
  1. This award will be given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of geology in Connecticut. The Nominee does not have to be a member. 
  2. The award can be given to an individual or a group. 
  3. The award can be for work done over the previous year or for work done over multiple years (lifetime achievement). 
  4. Any member can submit a nomination for this award. Only GSC members can make nominations. 
  5. A nomination form shall be posted on the website and nominations shall be sent to the current GSC President. The individual making the nomination shall be asked to provide a description of the contribution of the nominee. 
  6. The President shall choose a committee of 3 members to serve on the selection committee. At least one member will be from the Board. The committee should have one member from the government field, one from education and one from the consulting field. 
  7. The individual(s) receiving the award shall receive an honorary membership for the next year and will be invited to attend the next GSC sponsored field trip at no cost. The Board has chosen a unique green marble obelisk to be presented to the award recipient. 
  8. The award will be presented at the annual meeting in the fall.
