2022 Summer Picnic at Hammonasset State Park

The Geological Society of Connecticut was pleased to host a summer picnic on September 10 at Hammonasset State Park in Madison. We met at noon at the pavilion near the Nature Center and enjoyed a cook out. Entry to the park is free with Connecticut-licensed cars but an event registration fee of $15/attendee will cover the food/supplies GSC will provide (hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, corn, watermelon, chips, desserts, and soft drinks). The event was BYOB (alcoholic beverages are allowed in the picnic areas).
Geology We Saw
During the afternoon we held an informal field trip discussing the large glacial delta (largest on CT shoreline) that built into Glacial Lake Connecticut and now underlies the Park, the interesting double-linear moraine that crosses the southeast portion of the Park, and the beach retreat processes in a transgressing sea.
